Meet Doctor Nick Cost
I have always been into healthcare. My parents were both in healthcare. So my dad always worked in the OR for 40 years. And so he had a lot of doctor friends and he had a buddy at, one of his close buddies was a dentist, so I was always around doctors, dentists and things like that. And so actually originally I wanted to be a vet when I was a kid.
I ended up just doing, when I was in high school, doing some shadowing of…I always kind of gravitated towards surgery. I had a chance to shadow some surgeons in the OR, saw some different surgical procedures in the hospital. Talked to some of my dad’s friends and buddies and talked to my dad’s buddy who was a dentist. And, you know, it always kinda struck me, like, the lifestyle was so different, you know, call schedules and things like that.
The dental lifestyle was just different. And I like that with dentistry you could still work with your hands. So it’s still technical. At the same time, you know, it wasn’t as crazy of a schedule and you actually had the ability to build a relationship with patients. Probably when I was…I was probably late high school, I was, like, “You know, I want to pursue dentistry.” But I went into college basically working towards getting into dental school.
I think now looking back, I love the technical aspect of dentistry, but I think what I love more is the people. I’ve always been a people person. I love being around people and dentistry affords you the opportunity to do that. And not only that, but you can help people. That has been my experience. I’ve been in dentistry now for, let’s see here, 15 years. And so looking back over the last 15 years, it’s been everything I’ve expected.
